Welcome to BobCon!
BobCon 2011 was a great success! Feedback from attendees was very positive, and many great games were played. Many thanks to AEG, Rio Grande, Mayfair, and White Wolf! Each provided product for the con, and several of those games were well-received by attendees. Our fundraising efforts enabled us to cover the costs of holding the convention once again.
- Thunderstone & Nightfall
Thunderstone made an appearance last year, and came back strong again, along with a new game, Nightfall. Both are deck-building games from AEG, and players enjoyed them.
Jon Spinner and Brad Warriner combined to run a D&D event with about a dozen players, and players enjoyed the scenario so much they were talking about it for days after the con ended. Players were split into teams after the adventure began, played separately for a short time, and then returned to one table to complete the adventure together.
Red Moon Medicine Show ran a scenario of their new story-telling game, Don’t Walk in Winter Wood, which was thoroughly enjoyed by the players. The game’s unique third-person narrative story-telling style was both fun and challenging for the players.
- Wine and Catan
The Friday night wine-tasting had plenty of attendees, and was a lot of fun. Following the wine-tasting, two Settlers of Catan games were played. BobCon attendees agree that the game is excellent on its own, but the experience is enhanced with wine.
- Farmers’ Market Cook-Off
The BobCon kitchen was busy Saturday as the Farmers’ Market Cook-Off participants were preparing their dishes. That night, attendees got to sample the various dishes and vote on their favorite. Sheri Justice won the event with her delicious apple crisp.
- First Robotics Demonstration
Members of a local robotics team came and demonstrated how their robots run through an obstacle course. The team competes in a robotics league with a number of area schools. What a great way to inspire young minds and develop an interest in this area!
BobCon Event Photos
If you took photos (either with your digital camera or phone), we would love to see them. Feel free to post them to our Facebook page.
The BobCon Council would like to thank everyone who helped out, ran an event, or played in a game. BobCon continues to offer a fun weekend filled with all of our favorite games, and we look forward to next year’s convention.
Speaking of which, BobCon 2012 will be held at The Coves Clubhouse again on 9/28 - 9/30, 2011. We hope to see you there!Add a comment
Just two weeks until BobCon 2011!
September 30, October 1 & 2
We are only a couple weeks away from BobCon and Event Registration is a bit sparse. Whether this is because there is plenty of time or because there are not enough events to interest people, I am not sure. If you are just waiting to see what presents itself, remember, you can always add/drop events from your schedule. If you simply do not see events of interest, you still have until this Friday, September 16, to submit an Event Request.
Event Registration 101
There are a few key things everyone should know about Event Registration. Hopefully these will help you jump into some of the cool events we have available this year.
- Create an account once – Once you create an account (and click the link on the confirmation email to activate), you are good to go – for years to come.
- You should register for your own event – unless you are not planning to play (i.e. your are the GM for an RPG or you are teaching).
- Don't hesitate to be an alternate – if a board game fills up and we have another copy, a second game can be run. Plus, sometime people are just unable to play in a game for which they registered.
- Modify your schedule – you can add or drop events all they way up untilSeptember 28, the Wednesday before BobCon.
Relax, Socialize and Have Fun
BobCon is about getting together with friends and having a good time. THAT IS ITS PURPOSE. We know that everyone's schedule is hectic. There are kid's sporting events/tournaments, school activities, weddings, RenFest, etc. We hold BobCon because many of us simply cannot take the time to go off to a convention. This is local (for most) and laid back. It gives us an opportunity to see friends. Please consider coming even if it is only for one evening during your busy weekend. After a long day at a tournament, it might be nice to relax with friends. We definitely want to see you. And do NOT feel that money is an issue, we will not turn away anyone if they can't pay or it just doen't make sense for them to (they are coming by to socialize). WE WANT YOU THERE!Add a comment
Four weeks until BobCon 2011!
September 30, October 1 & 2
Event Registration live and ready for you to begin making your schedule and signing up for the events in which you want to participate! It is also time to Submit an Event in order to make sure the games you want to play are offered. It is easy to do and BobCon will be the better for it.
Register a User Name
In order to sign up for events, each attendee will need to login to the site. The first time you do so, you will need to register for
Most of the events have limits on the number of players it can support. Register early so you do not get left out of the games you really want to play. Alternates will be taken, of course, just in case someone doesn't show or gets delayed in another event. We will also try to run a second table if we have enough players and additional copies of the game. But don't take the chance – Register NOW! Remember, you can always add to your Event List later.
Some Awesome Events are Lined Up
Here are just of a taste of what we will have this year. Check out the Event List for the current offerings.
- Twilight Imperium – This will be an all-day event but is a great way to spend a Saturday if you enjoy epic strategy games.
- The Friday Night Wine Tasting is back again. What a great way to start the convention.
- Jyhad/Vampire: The Eternal Struggle Card Game – White Wolf has supplied us with cards to hold a Draft Tournament. Beginners are welcome (and encouraged).
- Farmer's Market Cook-Off – Another BobCon tradition. Show off those chef skills you learned from the Food Network and let the attendees crown the top chef.
- Game of Thrones – You've read the books or watched the HBO series. Now play the game.
We are getting excited and hope you are too.

BobCon is just around the corner and it is time to prepare!
Seriously, BobCon is just over a month away (Sept 30 - Oct 2) and preparations for the weekend of fun have begun. Over the next several weeks (okay, five), you will probably receive emails galore (updates, reminders, announcements, etc.). We will try to keep them to a minimum but we want you to be as informed as possible.
The Event Schedule is Live
The initial 2011 Event Schedule is now online and ready for your planning perusal. Our event coordinator, Dave Phillips, has done another great job of lining up events for the weekend. But the list isn’t final – we want, nay need, even more events. That is where you come in! Run an adventure in your favorite role-playing system or simply make sure there is a game of <insert favorite game here> on the schedule. This convention is about playing the games you want to play. Check out the BobCon Game Library to see what we have available if you need any ideas.
You can Submit Events right now! Event submission will be taken through September 16, but don’t wait.
RSVP, Registration and Sign-ups
Along with the Events Page, the RSVP form is also live today. Whether you are able to attend this year's convention or not, we ask you take a minute to fill it out. It helps us to know how many attendees we can expect. It also important to know why those of you who are unable attend this year can't, so we can make every effort to make future events as accessible as possible (just use the "comments" section).
Now that the events are posted you might ask, "When can I sign up so that I don't miss out on getting into Candyland?" The Event Sign-up form should go live September 2. A reminder will be sent out that weekend, too.
As far as registration for this year's convention, the initial RSVP is all we need. With the help of last year’s Game Auction and our Summer Texas Hold’em Tournament, we were able to keep admission for BobCon to only $5 per day or $10 for the whole weekend. You can use the donation button on the Website to pay ahead of time (see Donate button on the right side column). We are also happy to accept any additional donations – anything you contribute to BobCon is much appreciated!
Out of Town Guests
It looks like we will have several out-of-town attendees again this year. It is great to have enough interest in BobCon to be able to draw from outside the local area. This year we were able to avoid NASCAR Weekend at the Kansas Speedway, which means local hotels should be easier to book. Don’t wait, though. If you need help arranging lodging, give me a call (Bob's cell 913-669-5768). We have many options and no one will be left out in the cold (nor have to pay ridiculous prices). The sooner I hear from you, the better.
The BobCon Council has been working hard to make BobCon 2011 another great weekend. We look forward to seeing you all there!
